Scotland Golf Vacations

When you consider places that are off the beaten path, the Scottish highlands are highlight golfing destination for a number of golfing enthusiasts, and it’s easy to see why.

That is because in Scotland, there is a rare mix of abundance and splendor. Prairies that stretch several leagues already filled with verdant, endless green, a hint of fauna, and a gentle climate –all these constituents what golf courses desire and what golfing vacationers would like to experience.

Take note that the competitive play of golf is not the only aspect of golf. Everyone wants to win, that’s for sure, and everyone play golf to win. But not all golfers welcome the competitive stress of tournament play. These individuals could be golf hobbyists, businessmen, senior citizens, youngsters, or just about anyone that plays golf but not on a tournament level. And golf courses like the TPC at Sawgrass or the Seminole might not be the choicest for these player brackets.

That’s why Scotland golf vacations offer this remarkable mix: a balance of competitiveness and relaxation. Though some of Scotland’s golf courses could cover tournament level of play, a good number of them Scottish golf courses are built upon imagination, traditional style, and freedom.

Are you ready to take a path less traveled? Here are my ideas of Scotland golf vacations.

A Scotland golf vacation at Cruden Bay Golf Club

Cruden Bay Golf Club is one fine example of Scottish golfing. Softly undulating fairways that wind around and across high dunes gives enough of a demand to players to employ skills in power and placement, yet the challenge is as straightforward enough to provide any party of casual enthusiasts fun without the burden of tough, tour worthy golf course, or a cheesy, undemanding challenge.

One of the interesting highlights of Cruden Bay Golf Club is that it was played as early as 1791. Easily it becomes one of the numerous timeless heritages of Scottish golf courses. And it sits at bayside majestically where golfers are treated with panoramic and timeless views unique only to these highlands.

The choice of lodgings for Scotland golf vacation at Cruden Bay Golf Club is quite numerous, and you can see that all of them are faithful to the old English tradition. Here are some of my best picks:

At the 4 star Lorimer House, the homeowners Chris and Michael Cordner run the gracefully restored Victorian townhouse, complete with furnishings including the rooms, where Scottish breakfast is served.

At the Craigmore Guest House where the hosts Jim and Glynice Williamson accommodate and serves guest with Scottish breakfast on a very traditional Craigmore Guest House which is lavishly furbished with all necessary and luxury facilities.

At the Glenderran Guest House where exceptional service of hosts Maggie and Ray Pead, which earned them a 4 star rating and recognition of both VisitScotland and the Automobile Association (AA) will make you feel at home. They also served the typical English breakfast. They come highly recommended in the Good Bed and Breakfast Guide 2004.

The Scottish Heritage and the Golf Vacation St Andrew Scotland

Some say golf is really an essence of the traditional English culture. If you check out The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, you’ll notice the ring of truth to such claim. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews is revered as the “Home of Golf” and an important addition to The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. And yes, The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews is a competitive challenge, and it holds several championship and international challenge, including The Open Championship.

So take your golf trip to Scotland, take a less trodden path and enjoy golf in a way which is both relaxing and fun. There no need to build pressure, it’s a vacation you want.
