Type Of Golf Balls
Before, the choice of the type of golf balls would revolve to choosing what type of construction the ball has.
For instance, weaker drive players would want to choose the two core golf ball construct that’d have a better conversion of force to distance effect. These balls are usually made of surlyn cover with solid rubber wound for core –which would provide explosiveness while the surlyn cover would afford a bit of grip. But not enough though. That is why, too, there are those players (especially professional or golf tour players) that would use the three layer golf ball types that afford the best grip on the green but in exchange for longer and straighter drives. These three layered golf balls are unusual that they have liquid filled cores, a concept derived from inner inertia and thus converting more spin to a ball. On air though, it provides less equilibrium and aerodynamics.
The advent of the Titleist Pro V1 changed the course of the type of golf balls. These Titleist Pro V1, declared as the best professional golf ball and has seen inclusive use on the PGA Tour, is a revamped two layer golf ball. It is not much different from the concept of the two layer golf balls of old, by the way. It still has a solid rubber core, but instead of a rubber string wounded into a ball, the Titleist Pro V1 is one solid piece of rubber, technologically enhanced to provide the best explosive core. The golf ball cover, surlyn in the old golf balls, is made urethane, a better material in giving traction and gripping the green. So now, golf players are given the choice of a one ball that can do both, feel and grip plus the distance. The tedious choosing of a type of golf balls is over.
Liquid core type of golf balls, multi layered type of golf balls, titanium enhanced, golf balls of today are now interesting prospects of science and technicality. And then there is still the Titleist Pro V1. Here’s a clear sample category.
Two-Piece Type of Golf Balls
Titleist Pro V1
Up to this day, the Pro V1 is still the paramount of golf balls, in spite of several technology advanced golf balls in the market, like of Nike Golf’s One Platinum.
Multilayered Golf Balls
Nike One Platinum
Dubbed as having a “Progressive Density Core” technology, the Nike One Platinum is a fine example of a multilayered type of golf balls and a serious contender for the reign of Titleist Pro V1 dominance.
Dunlop Golf Ball 65u
In terms of affordability and practicality, the Dunlop Golf Ball 65u could be a serious contender to the reigning heavyweight champs. It costs way lesser than the two balls stated above, yet delivers with the best of them in performance. The price difference? Its somewhere at $30 per set of 12. It’s a multilayered ball, and for a urethane ball, it’s surprisingly cheap; at $24.95 its way cheap than the $58 price tag of the Titleist Pro V1.
Wilson Prostaff 360
When you speak about discount golf balls, nothings more savings efficient than Wilson Prostaff 360. For the price of $12.95 on each box of 15, its easily the best bang for the buck. Even if it’s priced way too low, it is still engineered to stay with the current crop of technologically enhanced golf balls. The “Max Distance” for one can easily deliver those long drives on the fairway. The “Straight Distance” is engineered to deliver less spin on the drive, an area of failing of most novice golfer. Those wishing for slicker green control? They can have the Tour Performance.
The type of golf balls could also include Almost Golf Practice Ball. Its a foam practice golf ball that allows putting and driving on backyards without those window and head mishaps. These balls still has solid cores so it performs similar to regular golf balls. The only difference, being made of compressed foam, is its not having enough propellant to multiply force into distance. It travels 1/3rd of the distance if it’s a regular golf ball.
Then there are custom golf balls for those wanting specific variations. Those that want to save a bit can get used golf balls, Titleist Pro V1s, One Platinums, or even Wilson Prostaff 360s that are used and resold. These balls are usually tour used or reclaimed from a dredging operation and then resold for purposes as a practice ball.
